If there is one factor that unifies us all on a global level, it is the reality that things in life are always in flux. One way in which we can predominantly see change occurring for us is through the seasons of life - spring, summer, fall, and winter.
One of my latest collections is inspired by the seasons, so the season that I have chosen to focus on is the current one - summer. In this collection, I strive to embody storytelling qualities that reveal themes such as transformation, hope, and renewal, through the empowerment of nature. I believe that themes like this are interwoven in modern luxury design, particularly in slow, original fashion pieces that reflect creative and contemporary ideologies.
If you’d like to discover more about exactly how we feel that spirituality and nature have shaped the current trajectory of luxury design, read on!
Finding Sacred Art in Nature
In cutting edge luxury design of any kind, you’ll find that popular themes or motifs make their way into most contemporary wardrobes. For the summer, I crafted an enticing collection of womenswear prints - mostly dresses - that reflect such motifs. The main idea that I played with in this collection was “finding the sacred beauty of art in nature,” in which I explore ideals of the juxtaposition of the supernatural and the natural, or finding themes of mystery in the midst of what is practical and realistic. In doing so, I aim to merge the natural and the supernatural worlds, so that people can see exactly how to have faith in things that aren’t easily, tangibly understood.
Butterfly Theme
In this print, I focus on a butterfly theme, which symbolizes growth, harmony, expansion, and transformation. Butterflies may not endure a pleasant process when it comes to changing into who they need to be, but the end result is beautiful and well worth every step, from beginning to end. The wings on my prints are colored pink to symbolize energies of love, healing, compassion, and grace. During any difficult season in life, we need to give ourselves plenty of self love and kindness to allow room for growing pains. The process may not always be smooth or pleasant, but we can trust that the butterfly’s wings will carry us, helping us to understand that any beautiful result is possible if we trust and believe.
Colorful Florals
Much like a flower sprouts from practically nothing (a tiny seed) and is dependent on our watering it for nourishment in order for it to properly grow, we also have to put in the work if we’d like to see any real growth or change in our hearts or lives. There are many types and variations of flowers, some more colorful than others, but they all require nourishment if they are to blossom into their end result. In this print, I included many different colors of flowers, and I wanted to convey the idea that anything is possible if we put forth real effort and consistency toward healing, restoration, and hope.
All-Knowing Eye
Lastly, I visually portrayed an overlapping all-knowing, all-seeing set of eye designs, to signify the omniscience of divine forces in our lives. It may seem like we are powerless, helpless, or completely in charge of our own choices and destiny, but in reality, if we are to truly heal, then we are only responsible for part of the process. The rest is about surrendering to the healing power of the divine. The set of eyes ties in the flowers and butterflies together because it shows that there are transcendent forces beyond ourselves that are helping us piece life together, bit by bit.
